A younger brother of my father went out Asakusa, Tokyo, to Paris to pursue pantomime more than 40 years ago.
He is over 70 now and still has gone living his own life.
For years, his movement has gone beyond pantomime
altered from intentional
to natural movement:
from intentionally meaningful movement
to naturally contagious movement.
In “Shuhari (protect/detach/separate)” (a Japanese martial art concept that describes the stages of learning to mastery) , he is in the stage of “ri”, separating or leaving.
Even though he has been away from Japan for more than 40 years, I always feel
Japanese spirits in what he created.
I cannot see it, but I definitely feel it.
Feel, rather than think,
and think about the things I felt …
