スタジオ近くに あしずりダディー牧場という現役を引退した馬達を放牧し、安心して余生を送ることが出来る施設があります。
そのダディー牧場で2013年に馬のたてがみを頂き去年の今頃筆をつくりました。

この20年自分で使う筆は全て自作してきましたが 靴磨きのブラシから毛を使ったりしていて 馬から直接いただいたのはこの時が初めてでした。
そして、今年その筆を使って作品が出来始めたので牧場にお知らせしたところ去年みなさんに見守られながら天馬になったということでした。
この馬はサラブレット最多勝記録を持つ元競走馬オリジナルステップという有名な馬だったこともあり 瞬時にスーホの白い馬の物語を思い出しました。
物語では競馬で優勝した馬が死んで楽器になり音が奏でられ、うちのスタジオでは筆になり絵が生まれる そんな感じです。

Nearby my studio, there is a farm called Ashizuri Daddy Ranch, where race horses can graze freely and spend the rest of their lives in peace after retirement.
At the ranch, I was given some horse mane in 2013 and made brushes with the mane around this time last year. （http://freeride.ryosakukotaka.jp/2016/06/12/brush-making/）
For the last 20 years, I have made all the brushes by myself, using hairs of shoe brushes and so forth. So it was the first time I directly got hairs from a horse.
And this year, when I let people at the ranch know that I had started making some pieces of work with the brush, I was informed that the horse passed away last year, under the watch of the family.
This horse, named Original Step, used to be a very famous race horse since it possesses the record for most wins among Thoroughbred. This instantly reminded me of a story “Suho and the White Horse”.
I thought … in the story, a prized horse died and became an instrument to play music, and here in my studio became a brush and new works are created.
