先日の山口県立萩美術館の特別展示 浮世絵最強列伝
関連イベント行って来ました。

僕といえば、去年の秋から年をまたいでの制作期間 あまり人と話してなかったのもあってか、思わず１時間もお話してしまいました。
おっさんの話、聞いてくださる人がいるってありがたいですわ〜。
こういう場を設けてくださってうれしいです。
本題から話がそれたというより
なかなかたどり着かなかった。
紙や作品の話から
もちろん地球の話も、宇宙に生きてることも
話は広がっていった。笑
今回のワークショップの染め体験の参加者の中に子供さんも３人いらしてくださいました。
ほんでやっぱり、改めて、
子供は天才ということを確認することができました。
高知には みやもっち体育で子供達の目の輝きをキープしてきている、みやもっちという人がいてます。
そのみやもっちに声をかけて頂いて2005年に始まった幼稚園でのワークショップでは全員が何かの天才だったという経験、天才と会ってきたそんな感じで帰りの車の中でおもったことでした。
僕は僕で 和紙の装飾を子供たちが大きくなってからでも
そういやそんなことしたな〜と何かの時に思い出す
体験をして行って欲しいと思っていた
それは和紙や日本に興味あってもなかってもいいけど
何かの時メニューにないと存在も知らないので
知らないまま出会わないまま
あるいは特別なことと思い込むかもしれない
自分がそうやったから
ワザと避けてきたわけではないけど
普通にしてたらなかなか出会わなかった
おそらく彼らにとって、最初の出会いなので
大事にしたい
自分の仕事も大事だから
真剣に紹介したい
本気で楽しんでもらえるように
全て普段仕事に使う道具と同じものを使う
まずは本物に出会って欲しいから
いろいろ思って行ったのですが
想像を遥かに超えるほど
子供達は真面目で真剣で素直で天才
本当にこちらも嬉しくなります！
一緒に創作するだけでワクワクします。
そんな大事なことをまた思い出させていただきました。
僕の周りにちょくちょくこんな大人もおるような気がします。
I went to Hagi Uragami Museum in Yamaguchi to attend an event related to their special exhibition “Popular Impressions:Japanese Prints from the Lee E. Dirks Collection”
(The exhibition was on until May 27 and will tour some other cities after that)
There I gave a lecture, which ended up an hour long, partly because I had hardly talked with anyone during the last working season that started in last autumn and lasted over the new year.
I felt so grateful that there were people out there who would listen to an old man like me!
I was thankful to the museum to set up the workshop.
I did not get off the track, but it took me long to get to the track.
Starting from topics like papers and my artworks,
my lecture was broadened spontaneously
to the story of the Earth, of course, and that we live on the Earth.
We had three kids joining the dye workshop after the lecture.
Then I could again make sure of that every kid was genius.
A friend of mine, Miyamocchi, from Kochi, has offered unique gymnastic classes for kids to keep their eyes twinkle.
He asked me to start a workshop at a kindergarten in 2005, and through a seriese of workshops, I had experiences to see that each kid was a genius of something, and I would recall the experience in the car to home, thinking that I had met gifted people.
What I hoped then was that
my workshop would be an experience for the kids that they would remember about dyeing washi (Japanese paper) occasionally even when they grow up.
Because, whether or not they were interested in washi or Japan,
they might not even know the presence of washi if they did not add it
to their own options, and might just continue their lives without knowing or seeing washior belive it was something special.
I was like that.
I did not purposely avoid to know it,
but it was hard to, as I lived a normal life.
I want to sincerely commit to this workshop
as it would be their first contact to washi.
Because I value my work,
I want to introduce it seriously.
To let them enjoy for real,
I use the tools that I use for my own work.
Because I want them to know the authentic first
…beyond these my thoughts and imagination,
the kids were serious, commited and gifted.
They made me happy, too.
It’s exciting to create something with them.
The workshop at Hagi reminded me of such important things.
At the same time, I think some of the grown-ups around me are just like them.
