久しぶりにフォームワーク作品の撮影がありました。

これらフォームワーク作品は和紙とサーフボードの素材とのコラボで

1998年からやり始めましたが

オリジナルが人目に触れる機会は今までほとんどありませんでした

2013〜2014年の山口県立萩美術館での個展　小高良作の茶室『偶然が縁となり宇宙になる』で1年間展示していただいたことがどれだけ貴重なことかわかります。

専用の和紙は　原料の栽培から、手漉き、染色後、フォームに乗せてガラスクロスで巻き込み磨く途方もないプロセスを経てこの世に存在します。

そして、展覧会の予定などなく　

その先に何もなくても作り続けてきたこれらの作品に

関心を持っていただくことは

この世の中にないとされていた存在が

世の中に存在するものとして　変わっていくことなのです。

そして

褪せる事なく輝き続ける作品に宿る命を見ると

作って終わりでなく作品がその使命を全うするように

先のことをさらに創造していこうという思いが湧いてきます。

これは　作った僕の

使命であり　作品との御縁かもしれません。

We had a photo shoot of foam works after long time.
Though I started these works, which are the collaboration of washi and surfboard material, in 1998, there has been hardly any chance of publicly exposing them. 
So it was such a precious opportunity to exhibit these works from 2013-2014, in a year long solo show “Coincidence: Ryosaku Kotaka’s chashitsu (tea ceremony room)” at Hagi Uragami Museum. 

I make papers by hand from growing the material plant, specially designing for these pieces, then go through all the the rest of process – dye the paper, put it on a piece of foam, wrap it with glass cloth, and polish to finish… So these pieces exist in this world after such an inordinate amount of time.

I have kept making these pieces without having no exhibitions or nothing planned ahead, and so it is significant that works like that had some people’s attention, because these works changed into something really exist in this world, which once were non-beings.

And as I find a life in this piece, which keeps shining rather than fading
I feel inspired to keep creating something further,
rather than finishing up by merely making,
so that my works can fulfill its mission.

That is probably my own mission as a person who made it
and the fate between the works and myself.
